Bright Spots in a Dark Market

I've tried telling Chicken little the sky wasn't falling. At least in Dallas and Plano it isn't.

Surviving Sustainability...an interesting concept

Surviving Sustainability

The below article was posted by Catherine Horsey at Dallas Dirt on November 21st, 2008. I say bully for the realtors. I'm thrilled that so many of them are taking 'Green' seriously. But seriously, are consumers? Thankfully, the answer to that question is (finally) a resounding Yes. In a study released this summer, for the first time in history, purchasers of new homes, or those who have declared themselves to be soon to purchase new homes, are willing to spend more of their upgrade budgets on Green Features, rather than luxury features. This is a monumental paradigm shift and one which realtors (at least these 75 realtors) recognize. (I've printed the excert in green, as a tip of the hat to Catherine, whom I admire a great deal.)
And, as a shameless, self-serving plug, click this link to learn more about Lexington's Green Initiatives program, because hopefully someone will appreciate the thought that went into crafting it. More on Green Building (my theme for the next several months) to follow...

Earlier this week, 75 or so Realtors survived two jam-packed days of sustainability education at the local launch of the NAR’s brand new GREEN certification course. Now all they have to do is take one more elective and they’ll be green, too. Thanks to Bob Meckfessel (FAIA!) of dsgn architects and Tom Fitzpatrick of the Texas Home Energy Raters Organization (Texas HERO for short) for their help with the teaching duties. And thanks to the folks at dfwrealtors for keeping me going, with cookies and well timed pats on the head. Next class will be after the first of the year.
